Audience Portfolio

These people are our target audience, these are teenagers known as the "young trendies". These people enjoy a laugh and live life in the fast lane with a fun motto. Most of them are studying either at university or just entered the world of work at G322 meaning working class represented on the board as a D. Our main target audience are those who enjoy having a laugh with there mates and go on night outs.

Audience Portfolio

We researched the average comedy viewing age and discovered it was between 14-25 years. Despite this discovery, we have decided that it would be better to have a range of 16-25 years to allow adult content.
As our audience are at this age, their habits consist of: Going out to parties and the cinema with friends or family, social networking, studying and completing any work, enjoying alcohol being part of the student life.

The interests of our audience includes: playing computer or other digital games, this links in with the income of the audience, watching interesting films/movies related to our genre which is comedy , listening to specific music of their taste. Both of these interests will help us to understand our audience and produce the task correctly and is including in our clip, "Like Bernie".

Music [average]: Our audience focuses on any type of the music depending on their tastes. There are a variety of music genres that they like to listen to e.g. Hip-Hop, RnB, Soul, 90's and many more.

Social Background: Our audience come under D social grade. Their social status is working class or unemployment, as they are students, some of them do not work and some of them work earning lowest wages.

Income: For our audience this comes under students that might study at university and might have a job that its wages do not go over £21,000 a year. However they could also include students that do not go to school but may have a job which gives them little income for their needs.

Concept of Final Production

Our movie concept is about a interaction between two friends on a day to day basis. Our 2 minute clip is the introduction to the best mates doing what they do best, hanging out with each other as they are also "young trendies".
The first opening introduces a fat male character flushing the toilet being lazy showing a in sight to fat peoples lives. This stereo typical structure is used because our audience can relate to the victim as he is a similar age and we all have lazy days; possibly encouraging them to 'side' with him. His youth can be interpreted as easily becoming overpowered and generally vulnerable, especially as he is a young person home alone with his mates;
His friend is roughly the same age, tall, black, fully clothed in black, wearing a black hoodie, using a control pad showing the audience what he is up to.
As he is fully clothed in black, it conjures the idea that he can blend into the shadows, implying to the audience that he could be lurking anywhere or a boring individual.

Concept

We, Super Dench Productions are going to be creating and shooting a comedy film, we are going to be aiming our film at young adults (16-25), we are going through extensive research into the location of our film, this also applies for the scene in which we are holding our auditions.

The concept for our piece is about two friends living together, they both have a low IQ and this is told in a narration we will do, and together they act stupidly and get up to many different shenanigans making fun out of the situations they are in a over-exaggerated form.
    Concept
Our type of programe that our group will produce is a comedy. For ages between 16-25 (young adults) that like a good laugh! certain individuals that go to university or work and earn a liveing a wide spread of personalities.our location for auitions is cureently being nigociated. also our agenda and other factors of our film is also under construction.you can contact us at:superdenchproductions@gmail.com and we wil find people to advertise usand fund supportings.

180 Degree Axis rule and coverage.

The 180 Degree Rule is an important aspect of the film grammar. The Director's template has a tool for drawing in the 180 degree axis and it is worthwhile to get in the habit of drawing it in.

Crossing the 180 degree axis can be very confusing since the directions established for the viewer is changed. An example of this would be like watching a football game with the runner going to the right and all of a sudden we cut to him running to the left. It would make the viewer wonder if he was running the wrong way or not.
Another aspect of the 180 degree axis is that the closer to the axis the camera is, the more the viewer's point of view resembles the characters, and thus he feels WITH the character. This encourages the important identification with the characters which viewers should feel.
Proper coverage close to the 180 Degree axis is this from THE MALTESE FALCON:
Notice how close to the axis these shots are. An example crossing the axis is seen in this same scene but with the Bogart shots flipped. Notice how confusing this can be:

Both characters are looking from Left to Right and seem to be looking off somewhere else.
Instead of standard "Coverage" showing the inter-relationship of characters, another method of SHOT/REVERSE/SHOT can be utilized where the character's Point of View is seen. Afred Hitchcock used this method extremely effectively to create a connection with the character. Basically the format is:
  • 1) Show the character looking.
  • 2) Show what the character is looking at and;
  • 3) Show the character's reaction to what he is seeing.
This is sometimes referred to as the "Kuleshov Effect" since Kuleshov was an early Russian film theorist who suggested that what the character saw would affect what the audience thinks the character is feeling. His example is showing someone looking at some FOOD would suggest he was hungry, or a BABY that he is loving. Thus the director puts emotion into the actor's expressions. Buster Keaton films are full of this, and Keaton could show with a blink an entire range of emotion.
A classic SHOT/REVERSE/SHOT is seen in the Wonderful film SHERLOCK JUNIOR.

Scriptwriting

Scriptwriting

Scripts are text documents containing lists of instructions that are to be executed by certain script managers in order for the desired automated action to be achieved. There is a scene heading; the name of the characters above the dialogue; there is a description of the actions; there is a description of the shot type.

A Screenplay
screenplay or script is a written work that is made especially for a film or television programme. Screenplays can be original works or adaptations from existing pieces of writing. In them, the movement, actions, expression, and dialogues of the characters are also narrated. A play for television is known as a teleplay. The above is an example of a script.
what makes a good script is that it meets the grading expectations:

There is a scene heading with a short description of the location and time of day of a scene.  For example:  EXT. MOUNTAIN CABIN – DAY would denote that the action takes place outside a mountain cabin during daylight hours

The character names appear on the line preceding the dialogue
There is excellent level of care and planning involved in crafting the dialogue to suit the genre
There is an excellent description of the action
There is an excellent description of diegetic and non-diegetic sound
There is excellent level of care distinguishing accents in character’s speech
There is an excellent description of the shot – what the camera sees including transitions.   For example, CUT TO

A media product cannot exist without and audience. The spectators or listeners are assembled at a performance, for example, or attracted by a radio or television programme. Classification of audiences
Some target audiences are quite broad.  Olympic Games, for instance, will target a mass market.  Some products are targeted at a much narrower, specialised  target audience and is often referred to as a niche market.Audience can be divided into different categories.  What do you think they are?
Media organisations undertake audience research to find out information about their target audience using primary, secondary, quantitative and qualitative research methods and techniques. Media organisations use primary research techniques such as focus groups, questionnaires and face-to-face interviews.  Secondary research can be obtained by using ratings and circulation figures from specialised media research organisations. Audiences interact with and respond to different elements or codes,  There are verbal codes (language); visual codes (what is seen) ; and aural codes (music).

My Story Board for "Dont Be A Menace"
Dont be a Menace

The comedy exaggerates racial stereo-types:
Black in a urban neighbourhood who shoot each other and don't live past the age of 21. The mothers hysterical reaction to "son's" dyeing does not seem realistic because theres no blood this is edited on to the humour, especially when she discovers son is not hers.
We have made story boards on paper to follow each scene of the movie and the events that took place.

BBC reaserch

BBC Research

For this task I used secondary research (primarily using the internet)

v  What media industry is the computer involved in? it is involved with TV and radio also they have catch-up shows on the internet the weather and sport channels

v  Who are the company’s main customers (audience)? it depends on the programmer
there are children’s programmer cartoons etc, then doctor who ( children) heroes, torchwood ( adults)
i think bbc 3 is for older teens and adults ( not sure if there are children’s programs on there)
you can’t say that one channel is aimed at one audience because bbc1+2 have a variety of programmer bbc4 I’d say is for adults isn't there mostly old programmers on there so the target would be people who are old enough to remember them but i like them to. I’m 20, am not old enough to remember them.

v  How many people does the company employ? That there were about 30,000 people employed. That seems a conservative estimate, especially now, as BBC3 and BBC4 have arrived along with Digital, etc.

Don't forget, the BBC has Television, Radio, the World Service, the Regions, Ceefax, etc; they also make co-productions and have programmer made for them by other companies. Also, a huge number of freelancers work for them. There are teams employed on the Radio Times, BBC Shops, marketing, etc - it's impossible to list them all! Even in the Shepherd's Bush area, or White City, where the Television offices and studios are located, there are several different buildings.
I would think there are many more than 30,000

v  Is the company local, national or multinational? the BBC is multinational and is wide spread throughout different countries

v  Who owns the company-it is privately owned, part of a bigger group of companies or a public company? The government owns the BBC and it is not private because we pay television tax to watch TV and part of this money is for the BBC so technically we own it!

v  Is it worth YOUR while to work with this client? Yes it is worthwhile, it reaches a bigger audience and every television has BBC and you are forced to pay for it if you on a television so it will be worth your while to watch it.
